DataCenterUpdate is an independent market-intelligence publication focused on the infrastructure decisions behind enterprise data centers.
Why another data center site?
Because most of what’s written about data centers isn’t written for the people who run most of them.
The coverage follows the money: hyperscale campuses, AI clusters, gigawatt announcements. That market matters, but it isn’t the whole industry. Banks, hospitals, universities, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers and government agencies still own and operate data centers of their own. They’re the ones expanding a room, adding a few megawatts, or replacing equipment that’s reached the end of its life.
If that’s you, you’ve probably gone looking for a lead time or a rule change and found a number with no date, no scope and no source. So we built DCU around four habits:
- We start at enterprise scale. When a figure describes a hyperscale campus, we say so.
- We show the source. Who said it, when, and what they actually measured.
- We go to the original. Statutes, permits, filings and the report itself, wherever they exist.
- We stay independent. DCU doesn’t sell the equipment it covers.
The questions we try to help with are practical ones:
How long will critical equipment actually take to procure?
Which lead-time estimate applies to the equipment being specified?
Are utility rules, permitting requirements, or local regulations changing?
Is power becoming harder or more expensive to obtain?
What infrastructure options are becoming realistic — and which ones are mostly hype?
DataCenterUpdate was created to make those questions easier to answer.
When credible sources disagree, DCU does not hide the disagreement by averaging the numbers together. We show what each source measured, preserve the relevant equipment or market distinctions, and explain why the numbers may differ.
What we cover
DCU focuses on changing information that can affect enterprise infrastructure decisions, including:
- equipment lead times and supply conditions
- power, utility, and grid developments
- permitting and regulatory changes
- resilience technologies and infrastructure alternatives
- state and regional developments
- analysis of published market data and primary public records
The emphasis is on information that can affect decisions, schedules, budgets, or risk.
We are not trying to publish every data center headline. We would rather explain a handful of meaningful developments clearly than reproduce a daily stream of announcements with little context.
Built around the source
Every number we publish carries its source, date, and scope.
Where possible, DCU traces information to original research, government records, permits, filings, statutes, utility proceedings, datasets, or other underlying material.
The source, date, and scope matter. A broad market benchmark may be useful without being directly applicable to a specific enterprise project. A vendor may have excellent visibility into current availability while also having a commercial interest in the equipment being discussed.
DCU keeps that context visible rather than treating every published number as interchangeable.

Independence
DataCenterUpdate is independently owned and operated. Its founder works professionally in the data center industry.
That experience helps shape the questions DCU asks and the issues it considers important.
DCU does not sell the equipment it covers.
What we are building
DataCenterUpdate is starting small.
The initial focus is procurement, regulation, power, and infrastructure analysis. Over time, the goal is to build a deeper historical record of how equipment markets, permitting, utility policy, and regional constraints change.
The ambition is simple: help enterprise data center professionals understand what changed, why it matters, and what they should look at next.
