DataCenterUpdate Enterprise data center market intelligence

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 September 2026

DataCenterUpdate (“DCU,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes market intelligence for people working with enterprise data center infrastructure. This policy explains what information we collect through datacenterupdate.com and our newsletter, how we use it, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe, you provide your email address. The signup form submits directly to Buttondown, the service that delivers our newsletter. Buttondown sends a confirmation message, and a subscription becomes active only after you confirm it.

Information you send us. If you write to one of our published addresses, we receive your message and whatever information you choose to include, such as your name, your organization, or source material. Messages sent to our published addresses are routed to and stored in a Google-hosted mailbox.

Technical information processed for hosting. The site is hosted by Netlify. To deliver pages, Netlify processes standard request and device information — including IP address, browser type, and the page requested — as needed to host, deliver, and secure the site.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • send the newsletter to subscribers who have requested it;
  • respond to correspondence, including corrections and source material;
  • review and correct published material, and inform our editorial coverage;
  • operate, secure, and maintain the site and our records; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies and tracking

The published pages of datacenterupdate.com do not set first-party cookies and do not include advertising, analytics, or visitor-tracking scripts.

Third-party sites you reach from ours operate under their own policies and may use cookies. This includes Buttondown, which your browser is directed to when you submit the signup form.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate DCU. Each handles information under its own privacy policy:

  • Buttondown processes subscription and email-delivery information for the newsletter.
  • Netlify processes standard request and device information required to host, deliver, and secure the site.
  • Google provides the mailbox that receives messages sent to our published addresses, and the Drive account used by DCU Backups, described below.

We may also disclose information where required by law or where necessary to protect our rights or the security of our systems.

Retention

We retain subscriber information while a subscription remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward for administrative and recordkeeping purposes. Correspondence is retained as a business record for as long as it remains relevant to our work. Backup files are retained as described under DCU Backups below.

Your choices and requests

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your address from active delivery. It does not necessarily erase every record containing that address, since a record may be kept to honor the unsubscribe request itself or to meet operational and legal requirements.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold by writing to hello@datacenterupdate.com. We will respond as promptly as is practical, subject to information that must reasonably be retained for operational, security, or legal purposes.

DCU does not require you to create an account, and there is no account to close.

Children

The site is intended for professional audiences. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

DCU Backups and Google API data

DCU Backups is an internal tool operated by DCU. It is not offered to readers or subscribers, and it never asks website visitors or newsletter subscribers for access to their Google accounts. A short description of the tool is available at DCU Backups.

The tool uses the Google Drive permission drive.file. That permission allows it to regularly create, upload, download, verify, and manage the backup files it creates in DCU’s own Google Drive account. It does not request access to unrelated files in that Drive account.

The backups contain copies of the source documents supporting DCU’s published intelligence and DCU’s monitoring records. They do not contain our newsletter subscriber list or reader analytics.

Information obtained through Google APIs is used only to create and verify DCU’s backups. It is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. Credentials used to operate the tool are stored locally and are not included in the backup archives. Backup files are retained for recovery and recordkeeping purposes until deleted by the account owner. Authorization may be revoked at any time through Google Account permissions.

DCU’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as DCU’s practices change. The date shown at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
